Rare Voices Australia (RVA) is the national body for Australians living with a rare disease. The organisation provides a strong unified voice for a group that needs support by advocating for policy change as well as health, disability and other systems. RVA wanted to create a series of videos to profile case studies of RVA patients and their families to highlight the challenges they face and how medical practitioners in particular can support them.

Yakkazoo has helped RVA for many years solidify their branding and by creating assets that help amplify their messages into the community. For these videos RVA had written case studies that needed to be transformed into compelling content. Yakkazoo chose to use animation, creating touching illustrations that would be brought to life through these stories and allow the viewers to experience the often frustrating journeys these patients and their families endure.

Three videos, up to five minutes long each, told the stories of Angela, Elijah and Maria and their struggles to get heard by medical and mental health practitioners. The simple colour palette, sympathetic illustrations and gentle animation style keeps the viewer focused on the words and the meaning of them for the storyteller. They were designed to move and do that in more ways than one.
