For 14 years, over 23 nights, more than 50 light installations and projected artworks have made Vivid Sydney into the largest light festival in the Southern Hemisphere with its fusion of art, innovation and technology. For 2022 the theme The Soul of the City shined bigger and brighter after a 2 year hiatus. Yakkazoo helped bring the theme to life in a very big way.

Sharing the Same Life Essence was Yakkazoo’s collaboration with Rhoda Roberts AO, photographer Prof. Wayne Quilliam and DNSW, a powerful animated visual narrative that launched the First Light program each night, celebrating our rich Indigenous and First Nations Culture.

Told through Wayne Quilliam’s photography, this towering 7 minute looping projection, on the 4 pylons of The Sydney Harbour Bridge, looked at the balance of our world and reveals how everything is connected.

The story begins with the creation. The Rainbow Serpent forms the country – and the many totems of sea, land and the night sky that connect to it. From the river estuaries, to the rocks, and the sea, we saw fish life and totems of the Sydney basin spring to life across the surface as moving images, animation and supporting language.

Unquestionably one of our most iconic landmarks, each 80 metre high projection canvas was viewed by thousands and was nominated in Concrete Playground’s editorial as one of the 10 most breathtaking installations to catch at Vivid 2022.
